I Felt Closest to God When...

Every night, before Lilly goes to bed, we read out of a children's Bible or out of a family devotional of some sort.  One particular night we were reading a devotional where one of the questions was "When have you felt close to God?"  At first, she couldn't think of anything.  I told her I felt closest to God when I saw her for the first time at the hospital.  Then, a few minutes later she says, "I felt close to God when I hurt my back and had to go to the hospital."

I was thinking back to that experience and she was pretty calm during all the tests and so was I  - which is surprising given the circumstance and the fact that I don't do well with medical stuff.  I know my prayers during the time were just that she would be OK, but I am just now realizing that God gave us so much more than that.  He gave us peace and calm and knowledge and the help of my mom to deal with the situation.  Amazing!

Know What I Was Thinking About?

Lil:  While I was in the tub, do you know what I was thinking about?

Me:  No, what?

Lil:  I was thinking about having a sister that looks like "little Debbie."  (An orphan in China, we have a picture of her and pray for her often)

Me:  You think we should go to China and get a sister?

Lil:  Yes

Me:  Let's pray about that.

Lil:  And ask Daddy?

Me:  Yes, and ask Daddy. :)

Do You Love Me?

Lately, my precious daughter has been asking me a certain question 5 to 6 times a day - "Do you love me?"  She asks me when she is being disciplined, when I'm playing with her, while we are eating dinner, and just randomly throughout the day.

I don't think she doubts that I love her, but rather that I would love her always.  So, I have been reassuring her that there is nothing she could say or do that would cause me to stop loving her - EVER!

She has been asking me if her daddy loves her too, I have to reassure her that indeed he does. and he will never stop loving her either - EVER!

Another question that comes up almost as frequently as "Do you love me?" is "Can God see me now?"  Another hard conept to grasp - that God, who she cannot see, can see her everywhere she goes.  But, indeed I tell her - yes He can see you always, everywhere, and forever!  He knows how many hairs are on your head and He even knew you before you were in my belly! He is amazing!

Resurrection Story

This year, before Easter, I decided to get Lilly some Resurrection eggs. She really enjoyed opening the eggs and reading through the story and the verses each day.  I had her tell the story on video to share with others.  I am intrigued by the details that stand out to her.  It is so warming to my heart though, to know that she knows and understands why we celebrate Easter.

I Can't See God

Me: "Please stop growing."
Lilly:   "I can't!"

Me: "Please stop growing."
Lilly: "I don't want to because I want to be an adult"

Me: "Please stop growing."
Lilly:  "I can't, God makes me keep growing."
Me:  "Ask God to let you stop growing for just a little while."
Lilly:   "I can't see God to tell him that."
Me:  "We talk to God all the time...before we eat, before we go to bed, it's called praying, remember?  You could just ask Him and see what God says."
Lilly: "I can't hear God so how will I know what He says."
Me:  "You'll just have to listen very carefully and see if He stops you from growing."
